WHAT IS THE CORRECT ASPECT RATIO?
The Italian DVD print is letterboxed, but doesn't offer more picture information; rather it's cropped at the top and bottom, as you can see below. According to IMDb the film material for the TV-series/theatrical feature was shot in the aspect ratio of 1.66:1. Feature version prints on DVD/VHS, other than the Italian print are apparently unmatted 1.33:1, revealing more information than intended. At least some shots appear to have been later reframed or zoomed, even in the 1.33:1 prints, though, when compared to the Spanish video print, this version being the earliest edit of the series/feature version. (Unfortunately I'm unable to make screen captures of this print at the moment.)
